Getting to Know Me
My name is Kimberly Shirk. I graduated in 1998 from Arizona State University and moved to California where I taught both second and third grades. For two of the years there, I taught a 2/3 multi-age class. While in California I earned my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University. I returned to Arizona in 2003, was hired by Deer Valley school district and opened Sunset Ridge. I taught 5th grade the first year and looped up with my students to 6th grade where I stayed for the next three years. I then moved to Desert Sage where I spent five years in 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades. I have spent the last four years in the Teaching American History grant through the district. This awakened a passion for learning and teaching American history. When I heard about an opening at Stetson Hills I jumped at the chance to change schools and join the Stallion family.
I have two children who live both in and out of state. Both my son and daughter are getting married this autumn. I live with my three dogs, Dakota, Rontu-Aru, and Karana. I also have two cats, Socks and Kramer. They were all adopted from the Humane Society or were rescued from the streets and are spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. I have one class pet, Matisse. Matisse is a ball python.
I am so excited to be teaching 7th grade social studies this year and am looking forward to getting to know all of my students and their families. I feel strongly about keeping open communications between home and school. Please don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an e-mail if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. E-mail does work best for me during the day. The classroom phone number is #623-445-5375. I know we are going to have a wonderful year.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Shirk
